Project Description: Crossview Enterprises were engaged by the Shire of Esperance to construct a replica timber tank stand, then lift the existing 27t cast iron tank from the old stand and safely transfer on to the new stand. This historic railway tank stand had been successfully moved once before and is a much valued and historically significant local landmark.
The stand had been cordoned off from the public for quite some time, due to the deteriorating structure, so Crossview were required to design and construct a solid bracing system to support the old stand during the project, which was still supporting the 27t cast iron tank.
The complete build of an exact replica stand, along with all joinery and carpentry was completed by hand in the Crossview workshop. It was then fully disassembled and transported to Salmon Gums to be rebuilt on site.
Crossview also designed and poured 3 x 12.5 t precast footings for the new stand, transporting them to Salmon Gums by truck, resulting in reduced overall costs and siteworks.
Once the new stand was completely re-assembled, Crossview were required to custom design and engineer a unique lifting frame for the structurally compromised tank. The tank had originally been assembled and bolted together over 100 years prior, so ensuring its structural integrity through the lift was paramount. This lifting frame was totally fabricated in the Crossview workshop then assembled on site to ensure a perfect fit.
The 100 ton all terrain Grove Crane was onsite to support all lifts required for the successful outcome of this heritage project, supported by Royalties for Regions
